Hello there!
After one and a half day in the buzzing city Auckland, I travelled down south for 8 hours with the bus to the deep countryside of New Zealand. I arrived in Waipawa at which my guestfamily would fetch me. Harvey (the father) picked me up in his huge pick-up truck, which I usually would call a 'patserbak', but soon I would find out that these huge trucks are very needed in the New Zealand's countryside ;) After another 45 min in the car riding through beautiful hills and fields we finally arrived at the farm. Rachel is the mum and they have two little boys: Sam who is 3 years old and Joe who is 7 months old. Two very adorable little boys!
Harvey and Rachel own 5000 acres of land, with 1500 beef cows, 9000 sheep and 7 horses. Their farm is located very close to the sea and lies between beautiful hills. I have my own little house, which is very comfortable and looks out onto the deep blue ocean and the horses.
The first few days I really had some difficulties adjusting to my new lifestyle, no cinemas, shops or cafes but 200 km of rugged landscape.
However, after those few days I really kinda got into the routine of life here: it is very relaxed and I try to do some hiking everyday which clears my mind.
Life is kind of good here :) The family is so nice, I really get along with Rachel which I spend a lot of the time with. I help around the house, cooking and cleaning and help out with the kids. As it is very shitty weather I haven't done a lot around the farm yet.
But as soon the weather will clear up I can start to help with the horses and Harvey with his enormous amount of land/cows and sheep. I did have a ride in Harvey's bugey (like a golf cart but then in action style as a 4 wheel drive quad) with Sam and we went racing through the muddy hills looking at some cows up on the top of the hill. The view from there was amazing into the hills and the sea: no bad office view eh?
Hopefully next time I have some more adventurous stories to tell you ;)

Leuk om wat van je te lezen! Wat een landschap zeg, wauw! Hopelijk heb je in de tussentijd al wat kunnen doen met de dieren, maar in ieder geval leuk dat je mag crossen door het landschap met dat opgevoerde golfkarretje ;) Zal zeker wel wennen zijn deze nieuwe setting, maar het klinkt verre van onaangenaam. Veel plezier met alle nieuwe ervaringen en geniet lekker van alle rust :)
